Many people I speak to are tired of feeling overwhelmed by social media. If you feel that way, you’re not alone. I’ve often felt that way. But I have good news. Social media is my full time job, but it doesn’t have to be yours! Chances are you’re spending too much time on social media and not getting enough results. Sound familiar? Check out these three strategies and watch the way they revolutionize your time on social media when practiced consistently!
1. Declare Marketing Monday! Or Twitter Tuesday! Or Facebook Friday! No matter what day you choose, plan to set aside the same day and time each week to carve out a chunk of time to build your social media network(s). We are creatures of habit and when we create a routine around social media, it’s easier to actually sit down and do it!
2. Schedule, schedule, schedule. Once you sit down to write your posts, the juices start flowing and you may produce more posts than a reasonable person should publish in one sitting. That’s why I recommend scheduling your posts using a dashboard like HootSuite so that you can spread out your posts over the course of a few hours, days or even weeks. You’ll reach more people this way and present a more consistent online presence.
3. Resist the temptation. A lot of my clients complain about getting sucked into social media, following shiny objects until they’ve lost a few hours and have nothing to show for it other than a worsening case of ADD. The solution is simple: decide how much time you have (I recommend 14 minutes), shut down all distractions, then set a timer and begin. Have fun!
